Vintage AW11 – Behind The Collection

Lyle and Scott Vintage AW11

I caught up with our Vintage designers for a chat about the new Lyle and Scott Vintage men’s collection for Autumn/Winter 2011…..

What is the inspiration behind the collection?
The Autumn/Winter 2011 collection is based on a trio of trend-led themes, tied together with an overall ‘Britishness’. The main inspirations were the ramblers/climbers of the 70s, the preppy style of the Take Ivy look and the ruggedness of hunters and fishermen, as always the sub-cultural roots of 80s casuals movement is referenced.

How would you describe the collection?
The Autumn/Winter collection is bold. It has branched out and doesn’t rely as heavily on the branding. It’s on trend, however it remains very wearable. The garments are great quality and have a luxury feel to them with the attention to detail and quality fabrics. One noticeable thing is that the range has really grown, with a lot of new trend-led seasonal items that offer something new from the polo shirts and lambswool, although we still offer some great new polo styles for AW11 as well as core styles too.

What does Lyle & Scott Vintage mean to you?
The iconic Gold Eagle that’s used on Vintage is instantly recognisable and though it’s a brand that’s steadily becoming more diverse, we still maintain the core Lyle & Scott values that are reflected heavily in the Eagle. To me Lyle and Scott Vintage is bold, urban and sub-cultural.

How do the branding changes reflect the values of Lyle & Scott Vintage?
The branding expansion features important details such as the 1874 establishment date, that cements Lyle & Scott’s place as an authentic heritage brand with a real history. The re-introduction of the 80s script on the back neck label along with the arch script on the badge re-create the feel of classic 80s styling. Going forward the development of the new branding lends itself to branding different themes within the collection with different badges to tell the seasonal stories.

What is your favourite piece from the AW11 collection?
My favourite piece would have to be the multiple patch pocket mountain parka (above). This is because, not only is it a great quality jacket, but it’s perfectly Lyle and Scott; on trend, bold and a modern take on retro styling. It also demonstrates how well the new branding works on these seasonal pieces.

… And if that Multi Pocket Parka has caught your eye it is available online now. We’re going to carry on launching new product throughout August so make sure that you check out out New Arrivals for the lastest product drops.
