Lyle and Scott Heritage AW12 collection

For AW12 the Heritage collection takes a trip along the great British coastline, using inspiration from the traditional Naval and Maritime dress code to create a sophisticated and stylish winter wardrobe. Layering is key to the look. Luxury lambswool knits under tailored outerwear. Smart shirts are heavy on the attention to detail and polos feature crisp stripes for a nautical feel.

Our Heritage designers found inspiration in the history of R.F. Scott. Scott was a Royal Naval officer and commander of HMS Discovery during the Discovery Expedition of 1901-1904. Discovery set off for The Antarctic as part of a landmark scientific voyage to explore the unknown continent. Scott’s account of the expedition ‘The Voyage of Discovery’ was published in 1905. On a later expedition to The South Pole that commenced in 1910, Scott and four fellow explorers unfortunately never returned alive.

The collection also draws on the British Seamen and port towns around the UK. From Belhaven to Brixham and Sandwick to Skegness, British ports and Fishermen have always held a hardworking, nostalgic and strangely stylish charm. The idea of fusing functionality, warmth and comfort with a sartorial attention to detail came about. Military and work-wear styles bear a huge influence over design and style in the modern day and Our Heritage design team drew inspiration from classic shapes and time honoured, functional pieces, they then added luxury yarns, considered details, a modern cut and a sophisticated finish to each piece.
