Theme Park

I caught up with Miles from Theme Park who played Curated By Lyle and Scott on the 5th December……

When did you guys get together and how did you meet?

Well Marcus and I are twins so we’ve always just kinda been messing around making songs together. And we knew Oscar from primary school and Louis from secondary school, and we’d done some music stuff with them before so it seemed I guess natural that when we did put together a band they’d be part of it also.

How does it work being in a band with/as a pair of twins? Is it happy families?

Its great! We get on great. Plus it turns out its useful having some unconditional love to fall back on within the touring environment. I find when I’m short tempered he’s the one person I don’t have to worry about annoying.

When did you start making music, individually or as part of previous bands?

Well me and Marcus has been in a succession of bands since we were about 12. I guess Theme Park began after last summer when we both graduated, and just spent some time writing, seeing what we could come up with, whether it could be an actual career!

Who influenced your taste in music growing up? How has that impacted on the music you make now?

I think within the band there’s such a broad taste musically, at least growing up. One thing we do have in common actually is playing a lot of classical music. So I guess that was a big part. Our father used to play his records next door to our bedroom when we were very young as we went to sleep so perhaps that played a part also!

Which musician or band is your guilty pleasure?

I’m pretty sure I had Bon Jovi on my ipod at one point.

What are you up to at the moment? Touring (seen plenty of dates, is there anything lined up for December after CBLS?)? Writing? Both?

We’re kinda coming to the end of a very busy period of gigs. Things have pretty much wound down now, but it was fairy hectic over the last month or so. Now its mainly just writing. It feels really great actually to be back at home with time to work on some new ideas.

You’ve recently worked with Summer Camp (a CBLS hit, we really rated those guys), how did it come about?

Actually Louis used to play session for them, and he sent Jeremy the tracks and he really liked this one track and we went over to his to record it. Which was really great, he has a fantastic ear.

How would you describe your dress sense? Do you have style icons?

Personally my main priority with clothes is continuity. I quite like to have the same thing on for a while. And comfort. So I guess my style icon would be Larry David.

Is there a band who you would simply love to share the bill with (from past or present)?

I think Stevie Wonder would be cool.

Can you try and describe your sound in a bit of a nutshell for our readers?

Groovy, funky, kinda poppy with a twist.
